Auris Health was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 2019 for a total potential consideration of $6.1 Billion. Auris was founded by Dr. Frederic Moll, a physician and visionary entrepreneur who pioneered the field of surgical robotics, starting Intuitive Surgical, his first robotics company, in 1995. With its Monarch platform, Auris seeks to leverage the power of flexible robotics to enable new possibilities in endoscopy, which uses small cameras and tools to enter the body through its natural openings. Monarch integrates the latest advancements in robotics, micro-instrumentation, endoscope design, sensing, and data science into one platform to improve outcomes and reduce cost. Monarch’s first intended application comprises a suite of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to improve the detection and treatment of lung cancer.
